Student Accident Insurance
The Manatee Public School Board is very interested in providing a safe environment for all students attending school and during school activities. However, accidents may occur at school or away from school. Accidents that happen at school are generally NOT the fault of the school nor are such accidents the responsibility of the district to provide or pay for medical treatment or insurance.
You are encouraged to provide medical health insurance to pay medical expenses for student injuries or illnesses. As a public service the Manatee School District has purchased a supplemental student accident insurance policy to provide basic accident coverage for all students while at school or when they are participating in activities that are exclusively sponsored, scheduled, funded and directly supervised by the Manatee County School Board during the current 2020-2021 school term. This school time policy coverage ends on the last day of school in May 2021. This policy will not pay for 100% of all medical expenses, and is NOT “Primary Insurance”. The basic coverage is in effect only during the regular school day for pre-approved activities directly supervised by Manatee District employees.
FHSAA Interscholastic Sports and Extra-Curricular Activities: This policy DOES NOT cover school sports participants, cheerleaders, band, dance teams, color guard or middle school sports during practices and competition unless the sports and activity fee is paid. Because of the higher risk in sports, Manatee County requires a participation activity fee to be paid in order to participate in Middle School Sports, High School Sports, Cheerleading, Dance Teams, ROTC, Color Guard or Band. Please contact your school coach or Athletic Department for sports coverage and information. The district purchases a separate sports policy. This fee must be paid to the school coach or athletic department.
JROTC, Auxillary Units and Color Guard - JROTC/ROTC, Auxillary Units and Color Guard participants must purchase a the student accident insurance fee prior to beginning their activities. It is mandatory for each student to pay this basic fee. The fee provides basic accident insurance coverage in the event of an accident. EXTENDED 24 HOUR PROTECTION PLAN: The one-time cost is $42.00 for the school term and 2021 summer months. Parents can extend coverage for accidents that may occur while away from school on weekends and during all vacation periods. Coverage is effective on the date paid at 11:59PM and terminates on July 27, 2021. All 24 Hour plan additional policy terms, and exclusions apply.
